Contender Retrievers is a year-round Labrador Breeder that offers a variety of field trial, hunt test and family friendly Labs. We specialize in old bloodlines, excel in puppy socialization and superior health, but offer our customers so much more.
Contender Retrievers was started in 1992 with a chocolate female named Ellie.
Ellie was purchased from the Des Moines Register. At the time, Jason had no idea what a field-titled dog even was. Since then, Contender Retrievers has developed into one of the premier breeders of Labradors in the country.
Our dogs do not just excel in competition or in the field as hunters, but are equally at home as pets.

The building itself was started in 2014, put into production in 2015, and is still technically under construction.
Our Story
Jason began raising Labs in 1992. He and Kristi have been raising Labs as partners since 2012. Jason is the mastermind behind breedings. These days, Kristi's focus is mostly on Hogan, but also on puppy socialization.
